Four truly selfless people were honoured at this year's The One International Humanitarian Award gala, held last week at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile.

Four truly selfless people were honoured at this year's The One International Humanitarian Award gala, held last week at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. Finalists for the award, which carries a US$100,000 prize for their cause, were Christina Noble, Enrico Sala, Valerie Ann Taylor and Dr Cynthia Maung.

The award's founder, David Harilela, said: "The One reinvigorates in me a desire to believe again in the goodness of man."

Taylor, who helps rehabilitate the paralysed in Bangladesh, was the winner. She was presented the prize by Harilela, award sponsor Richard Elman, The One ambassador actor Donnie Yen Ji-dan and Baccarat marketing manager for Greater China Roraine Tang.

The annual Hong Kong Ballet Gala Dinner, one of the city's longest-running fundraising events, was held at the InterContinental Hong Kong last week. More than 300 prominent society figures and celebrities attended the event, and guest of honour was Undersecretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui Hiu-fai.
