It was pandemonium at the grand opening of the Shiseido image shop at the IFC Mall, as paparazzi and passers-by flocked to take snapshots of celebrities. There to celebrate the opening were Janet Ma, Kennis Tai of the Four Seas Group, Balia Chan, Mikki Yao, supermodel Cara Grogan and husband Jesper McIlroy.
The guest of honour was Shiseido ambassador Michele Reis. While most of the photographers swarmed around the former actress and beauty queen, the spotlight also shone on Grogan, who announced she and McIlroy were expecting a baby.
A glowing Grogan said she was three months pregnant. Asked if she was hoping for a boy or a girl, she replied: "That doesn't really matter as long as the baby is healthy."
An exhibition of 165 oil paintings by Hong Kong masters opened last week at the Central Library in Causeway Bay. The show was organised by the Hong Kong Oil Painting Research Society with support from the Arts Development Council, Art Promotion Office, and Hong Kong Culture and Arts Foundation.
Lam Man-kong, the society's president, made a heartfelt plea for more government support, both in funds and exhibition venues.
