The Greater Bay Area (GBA) is hosting a range of ambitious cultural events in September that Hong Kong residents can enjoy. Here are a few highlights to look out.
1. Real Banksy: Banksy is NoWhere
A wide selection of works by street artist Banksy is being showcased in Shenzhen’s Sea World Culture and Arts Centre.
The anonymous artist’s provocative artworks – spanning graffiti, installations and prints – tackle global political and social issues with dark humour and satire.

There are signature works, archival objects and immersive galleries, including 34 originals certified by Pest Control, the artist’s official authentication body.
Dates: Until November 16
Venue: Sea World Culture and Arts Centre, 1187 Wanghai Road, Nanshan district, Shenzhen

2. Matthew Bourne’s Dance Drama Swan Lake

Tony Award-winning choreographer Matthew Bourne’s reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky’s classic featuring an all-male ensemble has been stunning audiences around the world since 1995.
Now the production is taking its raw athleticism and contemporary storytelling style on a tour of China, with Guangzhou as its only stop in the GBA.
Dates: September 12-14
Venue: Guangzhou Opera House Grand Theatre

3. Air Supply 50th Anniversary Celebration Tour Macau 2025

As part of their 50th anniversary world tour, Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock will take the stage at Macau’s Broadway Theatre on September 6, performing timeless classics such as “Lost in Love”, “All Out of Love” and “The One That You Love”.
There are not that many tickets left, so loyal fans of the soft-rock duo should hurry.
Date: September 6
Venue: Broadway Theatre, Broadway Macau

4. Twice Macau Concert 2025

K-pop superstars Twice will perform in Macau in September as part of their “This is For” 10th-anniversary world tour.
Over two nights at The Venetian Arena, the girl group will perform their hit songs including “Feel Special” and “Fancy”.
The Hong Kong leg is scheduled for December 6.
Dates: September 27-28

5. Rome Ballet Company’s Romeo and Juliet and Othello

The Rome Ballet will perform the Shakespearean tragedies Romeo and Juliet and Othello, choreographed by Fabrizio Monteverde, on two consecutive evenings in Guangzhou.
Date: September 20 (Romeo and Juliet) and 21 (Othello). Tickets cost 100-680 yuan via Damai.
Venue: Guangzhou Friendship Theatre

Chinese artist Cai Guo-qiang uses AI to create his ‘gunpowder art’ in Macau exhibition

The new exhibition begins with the Observational Corridor, where 12 texts generated by cAI are projected onto walls.

In one part of the exhibition, AI creates firework displays based on its observation of visitors.

During the exhibition, visitors can engage in a conversation with cAI in one of three phone booths.

The fireworks generated by cAI in this year’s exhibition are based on the 80,000 images generated by visitors at Cai’s Soul Scan exhibition in Macau in 2024.
