The Greater Bay Area offers a varied cultural calendar this spring, from headline concerts by pop stars and rock bands to recitals by celebrated pianists and a French musical. Jane Zhang concert tour (Guangzhou) Known as the “Dolphin Princess” for her signature whistle register, Sichuan-born singer Jane Zhang is bringing her world tour to Guangzhou. Zhang’s list of accolades includes multiple awards for best female singer in mainland China at the Beijing Pop Music Awards, and a best original film song award at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2009. She has recorded theme songs for several Hollywood films, including Terminator Genisys (2015). Centred on the theme of “chasing”, Zhang’s concert tour captures her steadfast commitment to her musical ambitions. The production unfolds across imagined worlds through an interplay of lighting, props and costumes, from the deep sea to starry skies and fields of flowers. Now the star of Yuen Woo-ping’s martial arts blockbuster Blades of the Guardians, which opened in mainland China over the Chinese New Year holiday, is creating quite a buzz by bringing the tour to Shenzhen, where the Hong Kong star is expected to perform his new Mandarin release, backed by a hi-tech stage production. Positioned as one of the Greater Bay Area’s most ambitious citywide art events, it is timed to tap into the influx of international collectors in the region for Art Basel Hong Kong. Bringing together more than 100 artists across core museums, galleries and studios, the event will present a wide programme of exhibitions, talks, performances and screenings over the course of the week. As part of AWSZ, the So Shenzhen! Art Fair, launched by the same team behind Shanghai’s West Bund Art & Design, will make its debut at the Sea World Culture and Arts Centre. Other core AWSZ venues include Nanhai E-Cool, the Wanxia Art Centre, OCT Loft Creative Culture Park and the Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza. Sir András Schiff Recital (Shenzhen) Hungary-born British pianist András Schiff is widely regarded as one of the foremost interpreters of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. Beyond the concert hall, Schiff is also a respected conductor, teacher and public voice on cultural and political issues. In recent years, he has stopped announcing recital programmes in advance, choosing instead to decide the evening’s repertoire during rehearsal at the hall, in response to the instrument and the acoustics. The programme for the Shenzhen recital will be announced by Schiff from the stage. Hacken Lee concert (Macau) Hong Kong singer and television host Hacken Lee has been a Cantopop fixture since the 1980s, known for classics such as Half Moon Serenade, Red Sun, Never Change in this Lifetime and Flying Flower. Lee’s live vocals are often praised as sounding as flawless as a studio recording, earning him the fan nickname “CD Lee”. Blending pop-driven songs with flamenco-inflected dance and theatrical spectacle, the show reimagines the familiar story with a more emotional, romantic core. Chyi Yu’s ‘Forever Splendour’ live concert (Shenzhen) Taiwanese folk singer Chyi Yu is one of the most distinctive voices in Mandopop and folk music, best known for the 1979 classic The Olive Tree. Born in Taichung, she built her reputation on an ethereal vocal style and a repertoire spanning folk, classical and pop, earning her the reputation of having a “voice of heaven”. She has received some of the Chinese music industry’s highest honours, including best female Mandarin singer at the Golden Melody Awards in 1998. Her voice and songs have resonated across generations, with classics later covered by major artists such as Stefanie Sun, Han Hong and Emil Chau. EXO Planet #6 EXhOrizon (Macau) Since debuting in 2012, EXO has become one of K-pop’s defining boy bands, known for their polished sound, powerful performances and ambitious world-building. The group’s signature “universe” concept, in which each member has a superpower, runs through its music, videos and EXO Planet concert series. In 2026, they returned with their eighth full-length album, Reverxe, a comeback release that drew global attention and extended the group’s cosmic storyline.
