The University of Hong Kong Museum Society's silver anniversary gala dinner a fortnight ago proved to be a splendid affair. Titled "Sparkling at 25", the evening drew a distinguished crowd including Kenneth Fung Hing-cheung and Nelly Fung, former judge Filan Chua, and designer-collector Kai-yin Lo.

Society chairman Bonnie Kwan Huo outlined the organisation's history at the gala dinner, which also featured two charity auctions. Bidding was fierce for six items up for grabs, which included paintings from prominent artists such as Liu Guosong and Jao Tsung-I, as well as earrings from David Yurman.

The evening raised HK$3.4 million, which will go towards University Museum and Art Gallery programmes, university arts education initiatives and heritage conservation on the mainland.

Men's designer for Canadian fashion house Ports 1961, Ian Hylton was in town to introduce his autumn-winter 2013 collection, inspired by the first man in space, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. Fittingly, Hylton's preview was held at The Space in Central. Blogger and girl-about-town Elle Lee was among the stylish crowd enjoying the show between sips of wine and canapes. The live set from DJ Eve Speciall spun everyone right round.
