Bavaria-native Alexander Wassermann is the Miramar Group’s head of hotels and service apartments, including The Mira and Mira Moon. He spoke to Andrew Sun.

Growing up in Germany, food was centred around bread in various forms – sourdough or rolls with butter, jam, cold cuts and cheese, plus pickles and sometimes eggs, with pasta of all kinds a frequent alternative. Family Sundays were special, gathering around a roast.

Since moving to Asia in 2007, my diet has transformed significantly. I usually skip breakfast and lean heavily towards Asian cuisine, enjoying hot meals for lunch and dinner, particularly Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian dishes.

Living in Sai Kung, in the New Territories, I often support the local restaurants on my days off. A go-to spot for breakfast is the Australian coffee shop Little Cove Espresso (Shop 1 & 2, Siu Yat Building, Sai Kung Hoi Pong Square, Sai Kung), where I can indulge in good sourdough with poached eggs and avocado, and a fantastic coffee.

For high-quality Indian cuisine, nearby Bacco (21 Man Nin Street, Sai Kung. Tel: 2574 7477), the second branch of JoJo Indian Cuisine in Wan Chai, is a favoured spot, while Vilavilla Gourmet (51 Yi Chun Street, Sai Kung. Tel: 2788 3080) is our preferred Chinese restaurant known for its Hunan dishes.
