Hong Kong’s culinary scene is starting 2026 with a wave of new openings.
In Central, a new contender reimagines Cantonese classics within a historic landmark, while Gough Street welcomes not one but two Italian eateries.
For an adventure, head to SoHo to sample modern Central Asian Halal cuisine, or to Causeway Bay for a noodle bar opened by a contestant from the first season of Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars.
Read on to find out about the new additions – from seafood-focused teppanyaki to vibrant pan-Asian plates – to Hong Kong’s dining scene in January.
1. Pedder Chinese

Nestled in the historic Pedder Building in Central, Pedder Chinese introduces a classic Cantonese menu with contemporary flair.
Guests can sample stir-fried crab with chilli peppers served in a claypot, or Chiu Chow-style chilled yellow croaker. Other perennial favourites include deep-fried crab shell stuffed with fresh crabmeat and cheese, as well as claypot-braised oxtail in red wine.

2. Flagship

On the southern end of Wan Chai’s Ship Street is a small hidden gem that serves contemporary bistro fare with Asian twists.
Signature dishes include pan-fried octopus tentacle, crispy on the outside and juicy inside, topped with salmon roe and dressed in sweet vinegar. Hong Kong-style Typhoon Shelter Iberico pork chop is another must-try, as are the clams in fusion Sichuan sauce and confit duck leg.
For a seasonal indulgence, the rich crab roe risotto is pure decadence.

3. Raya

New pan-Asian restaurant Raya has arrived on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, and the menu – which has a Southeast Asian focus – is a mix of regional flavours catering to Halal and Jain dietary requirements.
Stand-out dishes include the smoky signature eggplant salad and pandan crème brûlée. The drinks menu features creative cocktails such as the Bali, with coconut and pineapple rum infused with the aroma of pandan.

4. Shellter

Steering away from its normal focus on grilled meats, Nikuya Group’s new teppanyaki restaurant, Shellter, places the ocean at the heart of its menu.
Under the guidance of chef Ami Hamasaki, formerly of Enishi, the food is defined by clean flavours and immaculate heat control.
The seasonal menu includes highlights such as delicate buri (yellowtail) sashimi, tender abalone and a succulent cut of Kyoto princess beef.
With two tasting menus starting from HK$1,280 (US$164), Shellter offers a refined and satisfying take on teppanyaki with a distinctly marine focus.

5. Dieci

Tucked away in a basement space on Gough Street, Dieci is an intimate Italian osteria founded by chef Paolo Olivieri, previously of Popinjays.
The à la carte menu offers a taste of rustic Italy with a modern twist; it changes monthly and features seasonal dishes such as Chianina beef tartare with winter truffle and fresh pappardelle with wild boar ragù.

6. The Spoon Pasta Bar

A few doors down from Dieci is an Asian-inspired pasta bar, where you can twist your fork into innovative creations such as Wagyu bolognese ragu bianco with curry coconut cream pappardelle, or baked bak kut teh short ribs in pesto and chilli oil. Interesting snacks include foie gras and kaya pâté on toast, as well as beef tartare with mustard and curry aioli.

7. Yurt

Yurt has arrived in Hong Kong, billing itself as the city’s first modern Central Asian Halal restaurant, bringing the flavours of the steppes to Elgin Street.
Diners can explore a six-course tasting menu featuring celebrated dishes such as the refreshing achichuk (tomato and onion) salad and aromatic pilaf rice, while the à la carte menu highlights include the traditional nomadic dish beshbarmak, with the optional extra of horsemeat sausage.
There is a strict no-alcohol policy, but you can wash down your food with exquisite teas and mocktail cocktails.

8. Dae Yeop

Dae Yeop, or Big Light Noodle, from Seoul, has opened its first outpost in Hong Kong. The noodle bar by chef Ko Seok-hyeon, who took part in the first season of Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars, celebrates Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold beef noodles), the national dish of North Korea.
The restaurant is popular for its live noodle station, and the Hong Kong branch will also serve barbecue items. The famous house-made buckwheat noodles are paired with succulent Hanwoo beef, making this a must-try for all noodle fanatics.

9. Right Tea-rific

Prolific restaurateur Nansen Lai, behind venues such as Flower Drum, Fat J’s Char Siu and Lai’s Kitchen, has vowed to maintain and preserve the spirit of Hong Kong’s cha chaan teng.
It is why his latest venture focuses on sandwiches and baked goods paired with quality tea. There are also cha chaan teng classics, such as French toast, pineapple buns and egg tarts. Highlights of the menu include home-made jams by local jam aficionado Wilson Fok.

10. Shiro Central

Shiro Central offers a contemporary Japanese dining experience in a chic, relaxing oasis in the middle of Tai Kwun. The menu features signature staples like Saikyo-style black cod, stone-grilled Wagyu and chilli teriyaki lamb with yuzu, garlic and miso.
At the new location, the drinks menu features signature beers and cocktails infused with distinctive Japanese elements, alongside a selection of premium sake, whisky and non-alcoholic options.

11. Ask for Alonzo, Sha Tin

Ask for Alonzo has just opened its sixth branch in Sha Tin New Town Plaza. True to its reputation, the new location offers a warm atmosphere and a menu of authentic family-style Italian classics.
The spacious interior seats 70, while the pet-friendly alfresco terrace accommodates 30 more. Diners can indulge in signature dishes like Alonzo’s carbonara or the prawn and asparagus risotto. Enhance any visit with the daily happy hour that runs from 3pm to 8pm, or the weekend free-flow brunch.
