Florence Tsai has worked in jewellery, arts and media, and is currently a wellness consultant and director at Acme Wellness. She spoke to Andrew Sun.

I am a huge foodie and borderline glutton. Most of my family is also extremely food-motivated.

My grandfather, Francis Tsai, founded Wu Kong Shanghai Restaurant (LG/F, Alpha House, 27-33 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Tel: 2366 7244), which has been in Hong Kong for 42 years. The New York Times has reviewed it and many celebrities, including US actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, have dined there. It is still where I go for hairy crab season.

My grandfather also started the legendary ’80s club, Bar City in Tsim Sha Tsui, where celebrities like Anita Mui Yim-fong went to party. I believe my love for food, good music, art, wine and finer sensibilities stemmed from this.

Although I was exposed to fancy restaurants from a young age, my mum often took me to cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style diners). I can enjoy a fishball noodle from Kong Chai Kee (2 Canal Road East, Causeway Bay. Tel: 2893 5617) one day and crave the chicken rice from Louise (G/F, JPC, PMQ, 35 Aberdeen Street, Central. Tel: 5722 3269) the next.

I am a fan of the Black Sheep Restaurants hospitality group. It curates its restaurants quite well and provides what I look for most when I crave a good meal. From decor to staff uniforms, I truly do feel effortlessly transported. I especially like the New York pizzas at Falcone (Shop 1082, IFC Mall, 8 Finance Street, Central. Tel: 2631 1190) and the French bistro food and vibe of Jean-Pierre (9 Bridges Street, Central. Tel: 2154 6101).

An absolute classic for late-night eats is Hing Kee (1/F, Bowa House, 180 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Tel: 2722 0022), famous for authentic “typhoon shelter”-style seafood. However, the duck noodles are also a celebrity favourite and extremely addictive. Not having it after a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum feels like something is missing.
