Since married retirees Robert and May Leong started their Instagram and TikTok accounts in July 2022, they have learned to keep a straight face.

For the fun-loving pair, it was not easy. But as they got the hang of it, to their surprise, they discovered their content had wider appeal than they expected.

Three-and-a-half years on, the couple, who live in Sydney, Australia, have thousands of followers who cannot get enough of their entertaining and often funny reels – what they describe as their “social media shenanigans”.

Robert, who is 82 years old, and May, 70, are showing the TikTok generation how it is done, proving that age is no barrier when it comes to being social media stars.

On Robert’s birthday post in June 2023, a follower commented: “Hope I’m this fun at 80!”

Their content showcases dance moves that are unexpected and exaggerated to the point of being side-splitting. Sometimes, the two participate in dance mash-ups, complete with their own twist.

They lip-synch to trendy songs by artists from Taylor Swift and Britney Spears to Lady Gaga and 2NE1, and share punchlines with deadpan facial expressions. Their cheeky, offbeat humour has their audience chuckling.
