The humble udon noodle has been elevated to new heights at Shiki Zen. The wide-ranging menu focuses on two varieties of the udon noodle, and we have already made reservations to go again.

For our first visit, we opted for the tomato udon (HK$168), which is served with seafood. It's easy to see why the noodle is their signature dish - the texture was chewy and bouncy. The soup, which is slow-cooked, is also full of flavour with just the right kick of spice, and it infuses beautifully with the noodles.

The semi-buffet dinner options will certainly have diners coming back for more. Beyond offering a range of set options, guests can try a range of sashimi, sushi, tempura and oysters ahead of the set dishes. The oysters, served with a house-made cocktail sauce, were an absolute delight. Shucked daily on scene, you can taste the freshness of the Japanese variety.

For mains, we chose the wagyu beef set (HK$780) and the lobster set (HK$680). Cooked to perfection, the beef melts in your mouth. The lobster also did not disappoint and is a rich option served with a sea urchin butter, which had us digging for more.

Drinks-wise, the establishment offers a nice variety. We chose plum wine (HK$58), which was sweet and highly drinkable, even for those without a penchant for alcohol.
