Selena Gomez and her mum Mandy Teefey have never been afraid to speak out about the importance of mental health, and in a recent interview with Elite Daily, Teefey dished out helpful advice on how to take a break from our phones.

With social media proving to be one of the biggest factors associated with poor mental health among young people, the star’s mum said: “[Take breaks] in increments: Turn off your phone for maybe 15 minutes and put it away, because it is sort of an obsession and you kind of miss it.”
Her daughter Selena Gomez takes social media breaks too, from days to months at a time. “Whatever time Selena needs, she gives herself,” she explained.
“Don’t do things that other people are doing on Instagram because it looks like it’s a good thing to do. Instead, reconnect with yourself by doing less, reflect on what’s important to you, and don’t get caught up in the FOMO,” the pop star’s mother added.
