Maybe so! The “Stitches” singer has been sparking romance rumours lately, having been spotted on not one, but two outings with Portuguese singer Maro in Los Angeles, notes Just Jared.

They were seen grabbing a coffee together on Tuesday afternoon in Los Feliz. Before that, they did another coffee run together. It’s unclear how or when they met.
Mendes has been linked with a number of high-profile women over the years, including Camila Cabello, Hailey Bieber and Sabrina Carpenter. The singer was also rumoured to have had a romance with his chiropractor, Dr Jocelyne Miranda, though that was never confirmed.

So what do we know about his potential new fling, Maro – an up-and-coming musician in her own right?
Maro is a Portuguese singer

Maro, or Mariana Brito da Cruz Forjaz Secca, was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, according to an interview on the Bringin’ it Backwards podcast. She grew up listening to everyone from Madagascan valiha player Rajery and Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento to The Beatles and Bulgarian choirs.
“I started studying piano at the age of four and ended up doing the whole conservatory,” she told Quip Magazine. “My mum’s a music teacher, dad’s a music lover and we always had a very musical upbringing, so even though I never considered being a musician till I was about 20, music was definitely very present throughout my whole life.”

She ended up moving to the United States to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. Rather than go back to Portugal after graduation, Maro moved to Los Angeles, per escYOUnited. After releasing a number of self-produced albums, she caught the attention of Grammy-winning arranger Jacob Collier and signed with Quincy Jones Productions, per Bringin’ it Backwards. She’s also opened several concerts for Jessie J.
She is based in Los Angeles

The 30-year-old continues to live in Los Angeles, based on her Instagram biography.

She has garnered an extensive fan base over the years. On Spotify, she has more than a million monthly listeners, with songs like “Saudade, Saudade” and “Better Now” racking up more than 20 million listens each.
She wrote “Saudade, Saudade” while she was grieving for her grandfather, per Eurovision TV. “I think it’s just something intimate, it’s something so personal,” she told the media outlet. “It’s about loss, but it’s also celebration. It’s crazy how impactful our grandparents can be, and how it’s a reference to so many values, including unconditional love. Music is what gets us closest to that connection.”
She represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest

After winning Portugal’s Festival da Canção competition, Maro was selected to represent her home country at Eurovision 2022 in Turin. She finished fourth in the first semi-final and ninth in the grand final, per the Eurovision website.
She is a Belieber

Maro considers Justin Bieber one of her favourite artists. “I am a huge fan!” she told Eurovision World. “He is an amazing artist and inspires me. I am not ashamed of liking his music. Sometimes, I like some songs better, but overall, he’s great.”

Maro also has famous fans – including Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish, who has given her shout-outs in interviews.

“The song that really was the soundtrack to my life during some s*** was this song called ‘We’ve Been Loving in Silence’ by an artist called Maro,” Eilish explained in an interview alongside her brother Finneas, reshared by Maro on Instagram. “She’s unbelievable, I can’t even listen to that song, [it] destroys my soul.”
Maro captions the clip simply: “Collab? @billieeilish @finneas”.
