Design houses Anabela Chan, Mellerio and Cece Jewellery – who made Taylor Swift’s viral cat ring – find inspo in nature’s bounty

This summer, jewellery is turning to nature’s palette, drawing inspiration from the allure of fresh produce. Anabela Chan’s Fruit Gems collection, which is part of her Waste to Wonder project, uses pigments extracted from real fruits to achieve her signature vibrancy. Mellerio takes inspiration from Marie Antoinette’s pineapple tapestry in Versailles, translating the rich texture and colours into adornments crafted with bright stones. Meanwhile, Cece Jewellery celebrates produce with For the Love of Fruits, a charming series of five fruit-inspired pendants.

Beetroot, blueberry, melon and dragon fruit are among the produce used in London-based Anabela Chan’s Fruit Gems collection. Through a process that involves extraction and pigmentation, Chan achieves the vivid hues that have become a signature of her work. The range is part of her Waste to Wonder project, which began in 2020, when she upcycled aluminium cans.

One of the highlights of the high jewellery presentations in Paris during haute couture week was this set from Mellerio, which back in the day made jewels for Marie Antoinette. A pineapple tapestry at the queen’s apartments in Versailles provides the inspiration for these pieces, made with bright stones such as rubellite, aquamarine and tourmaline.

Cece Jewellery’s For the Love of Fruit collection comprises a selection of five pendant designs.
Known for its pendants and rings embellished with figurative elements such as cute dogs and dainty flowers, Cece – the maker of Taylor Swift’s viral cat ring – was inspired by produce to create For the Love of Fruit, a selection of pendants made from yellow gold, diamonds and enamel. There are five to choose from: pear, peach, cherry, fig and lemon.
