Emily Ratajkowski and Kate Moss both took to the runway for Demna’s Gucci show, while Louise Trotter followed up her debut at Bottega Veneta last season

The last days of Milan Fashion Week were busy with presentations from brands including Loro Piana, the purveyor of some of the most luxurious fabrics in the industry, and shoemaker Jimmy Choo. Two other houses known for their shoes – Tod’s and Ferragamo – showcased their new ranges. The hottest tickets were Bottega Veneta and Gucci, where Demna made his long-awaited runway debut. Armani, meanwhile, capped things off with a very on-brand collection designed by Giorgio Armani’s niece Silvana after his passing last year.

Demna, formerly of Balenciaga, revealed his fully formed vision of Gucci with the fall/winter 2026 show, Primavera, meaning spring in Italian.

Although the designer’s first collection for the label was unveiled with a high-profile movie premiere last season, fall/winter 2026 was his much-awaited runway debut. It drew celebrities ranging from Demi Moore with her dog Pilaf in tow, Shawn Mendes and Jay Park, to sisters Paris and Nicky Hilton.

In a letter posted on Instagram before the show, Demna referred to Gucci as a human being rather than a “maison … with couture roots”. “Someone fully aware of who they are, yet restless, curious, hungry to evolve, to surprise, to be surprised, to challenge and to be challenged, to be respected, to be desired,” he wrote.

Desire was definitely on Demna’s mind. The new Gucci woman is unabashedly sexy and proud of it. If she needs to rely on a strict diet or Ozempic to achieve the lithe frame to fit in Demna’s skimpy dresses, so be it. Who are we to judge?

Those old enough to remember Tom Ford’s Gucci – or followers of the fan account @tomfordforgucci – will recognise many subtle and not-so-subtle nods to Ford’s years, from the Adonis-like male models to the body-con silhouettes and the low-slung pants.

Against a very traditional backdrop – reproductions of ancient Greek statuary amid imposing pillars that recalled the hallowed grounds of a museum – Demna’s clothes looked almost pedestrian by comparison, but that was his intention.
