Feast your eyes on sculptural gold, sparkling diamonds and light-catching coloured stones from houses like Chaumet and Cindy Chao

As social calendars fill up, high jewellers are leaning unapologetically into statement sparkle. The holiday season is when wearable art transcends accessory status and becomes the ultimate expression of style, drama and personality. Champagne-light diamonds flicker like paparazzi flashes; high-colour gemstones shift with fearless flair; baroque pearls glow as if lit from within. When you step into the season’s “It” party, your masterpieces are meant to do exactly what they were designed to do: seduce the room, announce your entrance, and command attention. And in this world, these are the houses making excess the dress code.

Chopard’s haute joaillerie collection, conceived by powerhouse Caroline Scheufele – an advocate for jewellery designed by a woman for women – is set in 18k ethical white gold, evoking the delicate geometry of snowflakes. Brilliant-cut diamonds, some over 20 carats, animate the pieces, while pops of onyx dance with light and shadow, lending a distinctly 1920s art deco edge. The result is a high jewellery chapter that is simultaneously graphic, glamorous and timeless. Every creation feels simultaneously shapely and wearable, showing that subtlety and impact can coexist beautifully. In Chopard’s hands, sophistication is an art form, and the festive season becomes a playground for exquisite craftsmanship.

Meanwhile, Cindy Chao continues to mesmerise from her Shanghai Maison. Informed by the mastery of her architect grandfather, Chao’s creations embody a precision rarely seen even at the highest echelons of haute joaillerie. She transforms gold, gemstones and pearls into miniature works of art that blur the line between jewellery and sculpture. The 2023 Black Label Masterpiece III Caribbean Golden Brooch epitomises this vision: inspired by the elegant musa leaf, it glows with a soft pinkish-golden hue, set with over 1,400 diamonds and crowned by a three-carat pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond, mounted in polished European ox horn.

As the holidays approach, Chow Sang Sang emerges as a must-visit destination for those looking to balance style with festive exuberance. Marco Bicego’s signature yellow- and white-gold chokers dazzle with meticulously set diamonds, catching the light at every turn. Their textures balance celebratory flair with refined elegance, making them perfect for holiday dinners, office parties or glamorous New Year’s Eve events. Complementing these are pieces from the YuYu Energy line, inspired by the fluid forms of fish, where sinuous lines and delicate movement evoke sophistication and subtle storytelling. Whether layered or worn solo, these creations ensure every festive outfit shines as brightly as the season itself.

At Paris Haute Couture Week, Graff unveiled the 1963 high jewellery suite, a dazzling vision tailored for end-of-year celebrations. Meticulously cut diamonds shimmer like icy baubles, while bold yet refined silhouettes will capture the light from every angle beneath the glow of chandeliers. Crafted for evenings that demand drama, the suite transitions seamlessly from cocktail parties to black-tie galas, elevating any ensemble with effortless ease. Each gemstone is hand-selected for brilliance and harmony, ensuring that the 1963 pieces are more than jewellery – rather, the suite is a carnival of light, luxury and festive finesse.

If coloured gems are your thing, then Bulgari’s largest-ever exhibition in Japan offers inspiration in abundance. At the National Art Centre, Tokyo, through December 15, “Bulgari Kaleidos: Colours, Cultures and Crafts” is a vivid celebration of high jewellery, heritage and contemporary art. The show is a kinetic exploration of artistic expression, each of its creations inspired by the shifting geometries of kaleidoscopes. Bold gemstones meet meticulous metalwork, forming dynamic patterns that radiate from every angle. Rooted in the brand’s Roman heritage, the exhibition’s jewellery pieces fuse timeless elegance with contemporary flair, from radiant sapphires and emeralds to intricate diamond pavé.
