The designer likes to stack watches by maisons like Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet with her brand’s Crayola and Toothbrush jewellery

Nadine Ghosn has made quite the impression among celebrities and fashion insiders since launching her eponymous fine jewellery label almost a decade ago. The Lebanese-Brazilian designer’s whimsical designs include the recently released Toothbrush Bracelet (retailing at US$41,300) as well as a US$180 limited edition heart bracelet that famously sold out in two minutes.

Today, she is getting as much attention for her personal wrist candy – statement timepieces, often worn with vibrant jewellery.

How do you stack your watches and jewellery?

People usually comment a lot on this on Instagram. The way to do it is to not stack anything on your watch. By stacking, you’ll dent the gold because your jewellery is hitting the watch. A lot of people think that that’s absurd and crazy.

I believe watches are meant to be worn and I’m a stacker. So naturally, I’ll either have a very heavy stack on my right arm and then just a simple watch that stands out or, once in a while, I’ll stack with my watch, based on whatever I’m wearing. I don’t mind stacking on the same side and often when I do, I get quite a few comments from watch lovers saying, “Oh my God, I can’t believe you did that.”

For me, these are watches that are part of my personal collection and I love to see things lived in and worn. Obviously, I don’t want to damage it or dent it but I want to wear it with my jewellery. A lot of the time, I’ll put a pencil [bracelet] or a bike chain with one of my simple rose gold watches and stack them together because I think it brings more edge. By stacking, you can create your own and you can speak to your own style, especially when it’s a classic watch that you’ll see a lot of people wearing.

Tell us about the Toothbrush Bracelet you’re wearing with your watch.

You can see that every single brush is handmade with three lines of gold. The level of craftsmanship that goes into this is absolutely insane. I launched it right before the summer and it’s going to go on my website soon. I’ve already had so many inquiries for a pre-order. They just take so much time because it’s probably the most complicated piece I have so far. It has ruby cabochons and ruby detailing and basically every toothbrush can be customised to whatever gold and stone you want. It’s basically supposed to look like it’s used. It’s the contradiction that I love, [having] fine jewellery and glamorising the toothbrush, something that we come across every day.
