October’s biggest watch moments, fronted by Timothée Chalamet, John Mayer and V from BTS
STORYJosiah Ng

Celebrities turned heads with rare timepieces, while Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hublot and Breguet unveiled groundbreaking designs
As autumn kicks into high gear, so have watch brands, with launches, happenings and releases continuing to ramp up in the world of high horology. Timothée Chalamet took to promoting his new film sporting a revived brand, while John Mayer launched a compelling new chronograph with Audemars Piguet. Celebrating a decade are Windup Watch Fair, toasting independent watchmaking the world over, and Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo as they host a massive auction of select vintage timepieces.
Cartier, Hublot and Horologer Ming released killer pieces involving titanium, while Louis Vuitton and Breguet drew on history to release stunning new watches. Last but not least, how does one follow up a storied career at an esteemed watchmaker like Audemars Piguet? Start new, compelling initiatives, it would seem. Here are our favourite high horology moments from the month of October.
1. Artists and their watches

Though he’s mainly known for sporting Cartier, Timothée Chalamet was seen with the comparatively larger Urban Jürgensen UJ-2 on an orange strap while promoting his new film, Marty Supreme. It’s a clash of the titans in 2025 as Urban Jürgensen was only recently revived as a brand with three models including the UJ-2, and is helmed by a team that includes renowned watchmaker Kari Voutilainen.

Meanwhile, Audemars Piguet creative conduit John Mayer was spotted earlier in the month sporting a custom Royal Oak that, at the time of his late September concert in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was completely covered in a design featuring just watch components. According to Time+Tide, the piece was later revealed to be a “road test” for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin Self-Winding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph or RD#5. It houses the new calibre 8100, which uses a rack-and-pinion system to smooth the reset motion while saving energy.

In terms of making statements, V from BTS turned heads at Vogue World not by wearing what is otherwise a stunning Cartier Santos on the wrist, but by sporting a Roger Lascelles pocket watch suspended by a cord, paired with a relaxed grey suit and a woven belt.
2. Windup Watch Fair celebrates 10 years of independent watchmaking

New York was a hotspot for watch activity this October, what with the Fondation Haute Horlogerie’s New York summit and Rolliefest (“the Met Gala of watches”), to name just two events. The Windup Watch Fair, presented by Worn & Wound, celebrated its 10th anniversary as a premier gathering showcasing some of the best and brightest in affordable, independent watchmaking.
