He played King George in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story – and says he’d like to play ‘someone that’s not nice’ in the future

When Sofia Carson began the casting process for Netflix’s new romcom My Oxford Year, she knew exactly who should play Jamie Davenport. The executive producer and lead actress had a clear vision for the charming character – and it was Corey Mylchreest. “Chemistry is a really real thing – and sometimes it exists, sometimes it doesn’t,” Carson told Harper’s Bazaar. “Corey and I always had it, so it was really easy to melt into this love story together.”

Set at Oxford University, My Oxford Year, adapted from Julia Whelan’s novel of the same name, follows the romance between Jamie, a professor with a devastating secret, and Anna, an American student played by Carson. Their connection – rooted in poetry and vulnerability – steers both of their lives onto unexpected paths.

Mylchreest’s portrayal of the complex Jamie is all the more remarkable considering My Oxford Year marks his first major movie role. Reflecting on the experience, Mylchreest told Tudum by Netflix that the filming process was just as transformative as the movie itself.

“Some of the most meaningful things in your life are momentary. Making the film, for example, was two months of my life, and I loved it,” he shared. “I met so many beautiful people, and I got to say some lovely, funny and sad words. I got to visit amazing places. That was only two months of my life.”

Fans who are eager to see more of Mylchreest are in luck – he is set to star in the upcoming political TV thriller Hostage and an indie film titled The Julia Set.
