Jacob Lofland was born in Arkansas in July 1996, and made his film debut at 15 years old in the 2012 thriller adventure Mud starring Matthew McConaughey and Tye Sheridan. Per L’Officiel, Lofland first came across the role after seeing an open casting call in a newspaper and quickly realised he fit every description of his character, Neckbone. Soon after he took a flight to Austin, Texas, for the audition and was offered the role within 24 hours. He received a Robert Altman Award for the role and a best ensemble award alongside the rest of the cast at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

On falling in love with acting after Mud, Lofland said this year in an interview with Cowboys & Indians, a magazine about Western culture: “My first film festival ever was Cannes, and the first question I ever answered about a film was there – so it was kind of a crazy experience. I really had nothing to compare it to. From there, I realised how fun acting could be, and I just kept pursuing it.

Like his on-screen character, his father worked in oilfields
