Q&a / Eugenio Franceschini, who plays Marcello on Emily in Paris, on fashion and filming

The Italian actor talks about landing the Netflix show, working with Lily Collins, and what it’s like being a ‘heartthrob’
His portrayal of the Italian heir who sweeps Emily off her feet during a secondment to Rome captivated the show’s viewers so thoroughly that they took to social media to fawn over the character’s good looks, understated yet polished style, and no-nonsense approach to dating.

Is this your first visit to Hong Kong? What do you think of it?
Yes, it’s my first time in Hong Kong. There was no time to discover the city and the culture, so maybe next time. The thing that impressed me from the first moment is that everything here is enormous compared to Italy. You feel like you’re an ant. It’s a strange feeling, given that the rhythm of life is different, and the rhythm of speaking and driving. Everything is different compared to Italy. It’s beautiful, too, to discover a different culture. I would have liked to spend more time here, but maybe next time.
Your role in Emily in Paris and the show itself have such a strong connection to the fashion world. How would you describe your personal style? What are some of your favourite brands?
It’s very simple. When I’m not working, I love to wear comfortable clothes because I have two young kids and I don’t care about the clothes. I just need something comfortable to play with them in. One of my favourite brands is Stone Island. I’ve never worked with them, but I would love to collaborate with them. Maybe in the future.
