Sabeté is bringing his Minions routine to the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics – he’s also known for skating to ‘Stayin’ Alive’ by the Bee Gees

Minions are taking over the ice at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, which kick-started on February 6, and it’s all thanks to Spanish skater Tomàs-Llorenç Guarino Sabaté.

The 26-year-old skater has quickly become a popular figure in the sport for his unique routines, especially his Minions one, where he skates to songs from the animated movie’s soundtrack while dressed like one of the adorable yellow henchmen. He was almost barred from bringing his beloved routine to the Olympics, but the decision was reversed just in time.

Tomàs-Llorenç Guarino Sabaté was born in July 1999, in Barcelona, Spain, and has been skating since 2007. He is a six-time Spanish champion but originally competed for Switzerland until 2019 before representing Spain.

He’s a fan favourite

Media outlets like AP have noted that Sabaté is not considered a medal contender at the Olympics alongside competitors like “quad god” Ilia Malinin and Andrew Torgashev. But despite this, he is a fan favourite with the crowd for bringing humorous, exciting routines to the sport, such as his Minions program. His other notable performances include a caveman routine and soundtracks like “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
