In their words: Hilary Tsui talks 20 years of fashion in Hong Kong

The former actress on Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel couture show, home-grown labels Lau Hei and Yat Pit, and style icons Maggie Cheung and Edison Chen

How do you define style?
Style transcends mere clothing; it’s a profound reflection of who we are. For me, style is an intimate language that communicates our values, culture and individuality. It allows each person to convey their unique narrative to the world, showcasing their personal journeys, experiences and aspirations through fashion choices.
What was the most memorable Hong Kong fashion event you’ve been to in the last 20 years?

Who are your favourite local designers or brands?
Lau Hei and Yat Pit embody the innovative spirit of Hong Kong fashion. Lau Hei is dedicated to creating natural, easy-to-wear modern clothing that embraces a modest aesthetic, incorporating a unique artistic interpretation of the relationship between garments and the human body. In contrast, Yat Pit focuses on preserving Hong Kong heritage and Chinese culture, infusing spirituality into their designs with playful twists.
