He started off in stand-up, broke out in Ricky Gervais’ Derek, rose to fame with Ted Lasso … and is now in Office Romance on Netflix

Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein’s on-screen chemistry with Jennifer Lopez is so convincing, the pair are rumoured to be dating.

Starring in Netflix’s latest romcom Office Romance, J.Lo takes on the role of Jackie Cruz, a CEO at an airline who finds herself falling in love with Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein), the company’s new lawyer.

Co-written by Goldstein himself, the film was inspired by old-school romcoms, with only J.Lo in mind to star as the lead.

“We thought this was never going to happen. We had never met Jennifer – as far as I was concerned, she was a mythical creature,” Goldstein recently told Tudum By Netflix. “But we could write it as a dream. So we sent it to her with a note that said, ‘We wrote this for you. You’re at the top of our list. It’s a list of one. If you don’t do this, we’re not going to make this film, but no pressure. Hope you enjoy it!’”

As it turns out, Lopez had long been a fan of Goldstein’s work and agreed to star in the film. When it premiered on June 5, Goldstein and Lopez’s undeniable on-screen chemistry had many speculating whether they’re more than just co-stars.

Best known for playing the gruff, foul-mouthed and surprisingly wholesome Roy Kent in the Emmy-award-winning series Ted Lasso, starring Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham, Goldstein actually started out as a stand-up comedian.

Born in 1980 in a British Jewish family, Goldstein attended Warwick University where he majored in film and feminism, and later moved to New York to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Art. During his time there, he began acting and writing his own plays which he would perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He then ventured into comedy and pursued a career in stand-up.
