Fame and celebrity

From swapping identities to sharing a bungalow in Los Angeles, the Oscar-winning actor and his younger twin are very close

Egyptian-American actor Rami Malek has been charming audiences since his on-screen debut in an episode of the hit television show Gilmore Girls in 2004. He made his breakthrough as the lead in Mr. Robot, won an Academy Award for best actor in 2019 as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, and later played the villain in the James Bond film No Time to Die. Most recently, he played a gay theatre actor in Ira Sachs’ The Man I Love.

What fans may not know about Malek, though, is that he has a twin brother, Sami Malek, who was recently spotted with the actor in London, strolling in the park and attending Wimbledon.

The twins may not look much alike now, but there was a time they were almost indistinguishable. Here’s what we know about Rami Malek’s younger twin brother, Sami.

He is the youngest in the Malek family

Rami and Sami were born on May 12, 1981, with Sami being four minutes younger. Their parents emigrated from Cairo to Los Angeles in 1978, after their father Said Malek became fascinated with Western tourists through his work at a travel agency, Rami told The Guardian last year.

The family spoke Arabic, and the brothers did not learn English until they were five or six years old. They have an older sister, Yasmine, who was born in Cairo and now works as an A&E doctor.
