Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton alarmed fans and the media when he appeared to hurt himself during a recent TikTok livestream. The 48-year-old is now recovering in a hospital after emergency services were dispatched to his home in Miami in response to reports about the graphic footage.
“Deputies quickly located the individual’s residence, where they spoke with family members on scene, and confirmed he was alone inside,” the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office told CNN on Wednesday, adding that Perez, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, was “safely recovered”.
Hilton’s website shared a statement from his team and family, who asked for privacy “during this difficult time”. “Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers. We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being,” the statement read.
The blogger, a father of three, is known to have been struggling with depression and has opened up about having difficulty paying his medical bills after suffering from a severe bout of sepsis, according to Page Six. In June, Hilton announced that he and his children were moving from Las Vegas to Miami to be closer to his mother.
