Who is Katie Fang, the Taiwan-born student beauty influencer who parties with Rihanna?

The viral TikTok sensation has worked with Caudalie, Mugler and Too Faced – but how did she get so famous in the first place?
Generation Zalpha’s obsession with skincare and make-up may be surprising, but it didn’t come out of left field. Young people grew up on social media, and anyone who spends time on TikTok or Instagram will be more than familiar with one beauty influencer in particular right now – NYC-based Katie Fang.

With millions of followers across Instagram and TikTok at the time of writing, Fang is now a bona fide online sensation. She went from a little-known influencer sharing beauty and fashion tips with fans, to getting her own billboard in Times Square. When she’s not going viral, posing on the cover of a magazine or attending brand events, she’s a student and occasional columnist for The Cut.
What’s her background?

Fang hails from Taiwan and grew up between Taiwan and Hong Kong, attending international schools, before moving to Canada. According to an interview with Allure, she is close with her mother, who she has described as “the strongest woman” she knows.
She’s also talked about how supportive her mother is. “Talking to her helps clear my head and teaches me how to handle myself whenever I feel pressured, overwhelmed and anxious,” she told the outlet.
Fang previously attended the University of Victoria to study journalism but switched to business, per Girls’ Life Magazine.
