Japan is ‘unqualified’ for permanent place on UN Security Council, Chinese ambassador says
Comments are the latest attack from Beijing after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments about Taiwan

Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, condemned Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks as “highly dangerous” and “extremely mistaken”.
“In light of Sanae Takaichi’s atrocious behaviour, how can the international community trust that Japan will adhere to its commitment to a peaceful path?” Fu said.
“And how can they trust that it can bear the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security?
“A country like this is totally unqualified to demand a permanent seat on the Security Council.”
Fu was speaking at a debate about reforms to make the 15-member Security Council more representative. The council’s fundamental structure has not changed since it was established at the end of World War II.
