The People’s Liberation Army will showcase its fighter jets from the air force, navy and army in joint formations during next week’s military parade, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The huge Victory Day parade will be held in the heart of Beijing on September 3 to mark 80 years since the end of World War II after Japan’s surrender.

Fighter jets will fly in formations simulating a “real-war scenario” and highlighting their joint combat operations, according to the Xinhua report on Monday.

It said the aircraft on show would have capabilities ranging from early warning and command to precision strikes, and the formations would involve a mix of fighter jets with visible weapon payloads showing the integration of their systems across the three services.

Many of the warplanes taking part will be appearing in a PLA parade for the first time and include newly developed combat aircraft that Xinhua described as “cutting-edge assets for high-end warfare”.

It said the display would “fully reflect the latest level of development of China’s advanced weaponry, and demonstrate the confidence and strength of the people’s military to deter strong enemies and secure victory in the skies”.

Preparations for the parade are in full swing, with large-scale rehearsals held near Tiananmen Square over the past three weekends.
