Hongkongers told to brace for temperatures as low as 13 degrees early next week
Minimum temperatures expected to fall to 15 degrees on Tuesday, before going to as low as 13 degrees next day
Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to dip to as low as 13 degrees Celsius (55.4 Fahrenheit) next Wednesday due to a powerful surge caused by a northeast monsoon approaching the coast of Guangdong, according to the local forecaster.
The Hong Kong Observatory said on Thursday that an “intense replenishment” of the northeast monsoon was expected to strike the coast of Guangdong next Monday night, resulting in cooler and windy weather in the region for several days.
The city would also experience dry and warm weather with sunny periods this weekend, before a major shift next Monday as winds strengthen from the north to northeast, reaching offshore and high ground by night, and leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures.
According to the latest nine-day forecast, the minimum temperature will stand at 15 degrees on Tuesday next week, before dipping to as low as 13 degrees the day after.
But residents can expect higher temperatures and sunny periods in the latter half of the week, as the monsoon is forecast to become more moderate, with daytime mercury readings reaching 24 degrees and the minimum temperature sitting at 19 degrees.
