Digital IP protector from US among 18 firms expanding in Hong Kong under OASES
Vobile among 18 new strategic enterprises that OASES has brought to city
A US-based Emmy Award-winning digital content protection firm is among the latest batch of strategic enterprises that will open offices or expand in Hong Kong, seeking to leverage the city’s creative talent and accelerate its intellectual property (IP) development.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) had brought in 18 more firms to establish offices or expand in the city.
With their addition, the total number of OASES enterprises would surpass 100, collectively bringing in more than HK$60 billion (US$7.7 billion) in investment and creating about 22,000 jobs, Chan said at a signing ceremony on Thursday.
“For the first time, we are welcoming cultural and creative enterprises that integrate technology with artistry and entertainment,” he said.
“The global digital entertainment market is growing rapidly, powered by IPs, AI [artificial intelligence] and Web3.
“Hong Kong – with our unique connectivity to both the Chinese mainland and the world, openness and diversity as an international city, and a vibrant ecosystem in innovation and technology – is an ideal launch pad for these enterprises to grow and scale across Asia and beyond.”
Chan was referring to Vobile Group, a California-based tech firm specialising in online video content protection, which listed in Hong Kong in 2018.
