Revellers pack into Hong Kong’s Central for Christmas photos, nightcap
Locals, tourists seek keepsake pictures under 20-metre Christmas tree as other revellers head for time-honoured drink in Lan Kwai Fong

Thousands of revellers packed into Central in Hong Kong at night to celebrate Christmas on Thursday, after many visited the city’s premier arts hub for picnicking and photo-taking.
Locals and tourists alike were out in full force along Chater Road, many donning whimsical Christmas outfits and transforming the thoroughfare into a sea of festive cheer.
The road turned pedestrian zone hosted a series of seasonal installations. Most striking was a colossal, spaceship-inspired Christmas light suspended above the crowd that served as a focal point for selfie-seekers.
Among the thousands in Central was Cheung Pak-lung, a secondary school teacher, who came to see the display with his wife and their four-year-old daughter. The 41-year-old reflected on how the city’s celebratory efforts had evolved over the years.
“When I was a child, Christmas was all about the traditional light displays on the facades of buildings in Tsim Sha Tsui,” he said.
“Having these lights suspended in the sky while decorations ground the scene creates a 360-degree immersive experience for new family memories.”
