CUHK earmarks Pak Shek Kok site for new medical building and 10th college
CUHK president Dennis Lo says new site gives room to expand while warning that high housing costs remain a drag on city’s research sector
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will construct a new medical building and its 10th constituent college near the city’s technology hub in Pak Shek Kok to boost its research capabilities, aligning with government plans to improve transport connectivity in the area.
Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, CUHK president, said on Sunday that high housing costs remained a key weakness for the city’s scientific research sector.
To address this, he said the university planned to provide more hostel facilities and talent accommodation in the future.
He added that the university would have plenty of room to expand on the site.
Authorities earlier said that Pak Shek Kok station on the East Rail line was expected to open in 2033 or earlier to improve connectivity with the nearby Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.
