Hong Kong police arrest driver after pedestrian hit and injured

Force says suspect, 52, was driving light goods vehicle when he allegedly struck man crossing the street

Hong Kong police have arrested a driver after his vehicle allegedly struck a pedestrian in Tai Po, leaving the victim with head injuries.

The force said the incident occurred at 3.49am on Thursday at the junction of On Po Road and On Tai Road in Tai Po.

The 52-year-old suspect, surnamed Chung, was driving a light goods vehicle when he allegedly struck the man, whom authorities said was crossing the road at the time.

The 55-year-old victim, surnamed Tsui, was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin with head injuries.

Chung was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. He has been detained as part of the investigation.

Police added that an alcohol test indicated Chung had not been drinking.
