Hong Kong police launch investigation after truck driver killed in crash

Driver, 42, rammed light goods vehicle into road barrier along Tsing Kwai Highway towards Tsim Sha Tsui

Hong Kong police have launched an investigation into a fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi involving a truck driver who died after crashing his vehicle into a road barrier.

A police spokesman said on Monday that officers would look into the causes of the morning accident after the 42-year-old driver was pronounced dead at 1pm at Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung.

“An investigation by the special investigation team of traffic, New Territories South, is under way,” the spokesman said.

Police were notified at 11.46am that a light goods vehicle heading along Tsing Kwai Highway towards Tsim Sha Tsui had rammed into a barrier when approaching Mei Ching Road.

“While approaching Mei Ching Road, the light goods vehicle reportedly went out of control and rammed into a kerb,” the spokesman said.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle after the collision. He sustained no visible injuries when rescued by firefighters, but was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital while unconscious. He was certified dead at 1pm.
