Three men allegedly linked to a fatal attack on a suspected triad member in Sha Tin have been arrested over murder and related charges after being transferred back to Hong Kong from mainland China.
The trio – a suspected knifeman, the driver of a getaway vehicle and another man identified later in the investigation – were detained by mainland police in Guangxi earlier this year.
A Hong Kong police spokesman said on Thursday that the trio had been sent back to the city.
The spokesman said a 27-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder after being transferred via the Shenzhen Bay border.
The other two men, aged 33 and 37, were apprehended over alleged conspiracy to murder in connection with the same case, he said.
“The three men are being detained for inquiries,” police said.
The victim, 52, who allegedly had triad ties, was attacked on the afternoon of March 16 by several knife-wielding assailants outside his home at the junction of Lai Wo Lane and Sui Wo Road, next to Sha Tin Junior School in Fo Tan.
The attackers fled in a waiting taxi, with the man dying in hospital that evening.
Some of the suspects later fled to the mainland.
The three returned suspects, aged 27 to 37, were handed over to Hong Kong police on Tuesday.
The Post learned that police escorted two of the suspects, who were hooded and shackled, to Tai Po Road by Kowloon Reservoir and to Fo Tan and Mong Kok for a reconstruction of the crime on Wednesday morning.
The reservoir was identified as the location where some of the suspects boarded the getaway vehicle.
The 27-year-old man was charged with murder on Thursday, while the other returned suspects were each charged with one count of conspiracy to murder. The trio are set to appear at Sha Tin Court on Friday.
The source earlier said the victim had previously been a member of the Wo Shing Wo triad gang before joining the rival 14K group.
Hong Kong police earlier arrested seven people in connection with the case, including a father and son, aged 76 and 47, who were allegedly Wo Shing Wo members and suspected masterminds of the attack.
The pair were detained in March on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
Investigators believe the killing was linked to a “serious dispute” over financial issues.
One of the alleged knifemen, a 25-year-old, was arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, and handed over to Hong Kong authorities in April.
The suspected spotter for the attack remains at large after fleeing to the mainland.
A 28-year-old woman was also arrested for allegedly helping him escape to the mainland and misleading police.
The other suspects include a 32-year-old man arrested at Lok Ma Chau border checkpoint and a woman, 27, apprehended at the airport in March for allegedly assisting offenders.
The younger woman was later charged with conspiracy to wound.
