2 workers injured in bamboo scaffolding collapse in Hong Kong’s Mid-Levels

Police say scaffolding covered second and third floors of Elegant Terrace residential complex and collapsed during dismantling

Two workers were injured when bamboo scaffolding suddenly collapsed at a residential complex in Hong Kong’s Mid-Levels on Wednesday.

Police said they received a report at around noon that scaffolding covering the second and third floors of Elegant Terrace on Conduit Road had collapsed while the two workers were dismantling it.

One of the workers suffered a lower back injury, while the other sustained a wound to the face. Both were taken to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam for treatment.

The force said the affected area of scaffolding was nine metres (29.5 feet) in height and nine metres in length.

Police and firefighters launched an investigation into the incident after arriving at the scene.

Photos of the aftermath shared by local media showed debris and piles of miscellaneous items, including pieces of bamboo and wooden boards, scattered across the scene.
