Man, 50, behind wheel of BMW that killed Hong Kong rehab bus driver arrested

Hong Kong police have arrested a motorist after his car fatally struck the driver of a rehabilitation bus who was operating a lifting platform.

Police received a report at 8.16am on Tuesday regarding the accident, which took place near the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Cyril and Amy Cheung Aged Care Complex in Sha Tin.

According to the force, the 50-year-old bus driver was operating the lifting platform at the rear of his vehicle parked on 8 Yuen Chau Kok Road when a blue BMW failed to stop in time and hit him.

The car had passed through Yi Shing Square and scraped a parked taxi. It then turned right onto Yuen Chau Kok Road, where it allegedly lost control and knocked down the bus driver, trapping him between between the two vehicles.

“The rehabilitation bus driver was rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious multiple injuries, he was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in [an] unconscious state and was certified dead at 9.13am,” the force said.

The front of the BMW was severely damaged, and a large pool of blood was visible beneath the car.
