Hong Kong Jockey Club plans fourth public riding school in Tseung Kwan O
School to address strong public demand and construction could begin as early as 2027, club says
The Hong Kong Jockey Club is planning to build its fourth public riding school on a former landfill site in Tseung Kwan O to shorten waiting times and boost the city’s equestrian talent pool.
The project has already gained support in principle from authorities and the club will seek town planning approval in the first quarter of next year before beginning construction by the end of 2027, according to a paper submitted to Sai Kung District Council.
The plan is scheduled for discussion at a council meeting on January 6.
The facility is expected to open in 2030 to address strong demand, with more than 20,000 people currently queuing for a spot in the existing three schools and average waiting times lasting several years.
“To cater for the growing demand, the club has decided to open its fourth public riding school in Tseung Kwan O after cautious planning,” the paper said.
“Apart from facilitating residents living in the southeastern New Territories, we also hope to shorten the overall waiting time and nurture more excellent equestrians.
