Maisy Ho Chiu-ha, a daughter of late Hong Kong and Macau tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun, died on Sunday.
Her siblings – Pansy Ho Chiu-king, Daisy Ho Chiu-fung, Josie Ho Chiu-yi and Lawrence Ho Yau-lung – disclosed the news in a statement but stopped short of revealing the cause of death.
“We regretfully share that our beloved sister Maisy Ho passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by family,” they said. “We appreciate your condolences and ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
She was one of 17 children of “king of gambling” Stanley Ho, and one of five children of Lucina Laam King-ying, the second of the tycoon’s four wives. Laam died in 2022.
Maisy Ho held the position of executive director at family business Shun Tak Holdings. Pansy Ho, one of the richest people in Hong Kong, serves as the group’s executive chairwoman and managing director.
A profile of Maisy Ho on the company’s website, taken from the 2024 annual report and updated on July 2 last year, listed her age as 57.
She joined the company in 1996 and oversaw the strategic planning and operations of the property management division and the firm’s retail and merchandising wing. She was also in charge of the group’s property projects in mainland China.
She served as a standing committee member of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and acted as Macau’s honorary consul to the United Republic of Tanzania.
Maisy Ho also held positions on Tung Wah Group of Hospitals’ advisory board, the University of Hong Kong’s Court and the city’s Advisory Committee on Arts Development, among other bodies.
She was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2016 and was appointed as a justice of the peace in 2024.
She earned a double degree in telecommunications and psychology from Pepperdine University in the United States. She received an honorary fellowship from the University of Hong Kong in October 2018, followed by an honorary fellowship from its school of professional and continuing education in February 2024.
Hospital Authority chairman Henry Fan Hung-ling expressed “profound sorrow” over her death and extended his deepest condolences to the family. She had been a member of the authority’s board.
“Ms Ho was a distinguished figure in the business community and demonstrated great enthusiasm for public services,” he said.
“She cared deeply about the healthcare of the public and frequently offered insightful and constructive advice for the enhancement of public hospital services.
“The Hospital Authority board and all staff are deeply saddened by her passing.”
Lawmaker Adrian Pedro Ho King-hong also expressed his sadness over Maisy Ho’s death, saying he had known her for many years.
“She was like an elder sister to me – not only showing great care for me but also providing unwavering support for my work,” he wrote on social media.
He noted Maisy Ho was a successful entrepreneur and dedicated to community service, taking part in numerous charities and social groups.
“Her death is a profound loss to Hong Kong society,” he said.
Her death was reported by media outlets in mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore, with readers posting expressions of condolences to the family on the outlets’ social media channels.
“A kind and lovely angel leaves this world too early!” one user wrote. “RIP! Hope she can happily meet her parents in paradise!”
Another user said her death was a “shame” as she was “too young to go”.
Maisy’s elder sister, Pansy, is ranked the 23rd richest person in Hong Kong with a net worth of US$4.3 billion, according to Forbes.
Younger sister Josie is a Hong Kong actress and singer. She won the best supporting actress prize at the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards in 2004 for her role in the comedy Naked Ambition.
