An upgraded border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen is expected to open next month, allowing travellers to complete immigration in just five minutes, according to authorities.
The redeveloped Huanggang Port Building will be the first link between the two cities to adopt the “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” model.

1. How does it differ from the Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang crossing?
The new Huanggang complex will replace the existing Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang crossing as the only 24-hour link between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
Commissioned in 1989, the original crossing requires passengers to clear Hong Kong immigration, take a shuttle bus across the Shenzhen River, and complete clearance on the other side.
The new complex, expected to open in July according to Chinese state media, will eliminate the need for shuttle buses, with immigration facilities from both sides housed under one roof.
