Instructor arrested after diver seriously injured by boat propeller
Diver, 27, suffers serious facial injuries in accident at Little Palm Beach in Clear Water Bay
A 27-year-old diver has suffered serious facial injuries after being struck by a boat propeller off a Hong Kong beach, while a windsurfing board hit a woman in a separate incident in the same area.
Police said they received a call at around 3.05pm on Saturday reporting injuries at Little Palm Beach near Hang Hau Wing Lung Road in Clear Water Bay. The two people hurt did not know each other.
The male diver was hit by the propeller of a small boat and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei after sustaining serious injuries to his face.
A female instructor, 44, was arrested on suspicion of endangering the safety of others at sea. Police said she had been leading a youth diving class nearby and was piloting the boat to pick up students when the vessel struck the man as the weather worsened.
Images circulating online show the man being taken into an ambulance with bandages wrapped around his head and blood on his face.
Meanwhile, a woman, 32, was windsurfing in the same area when she was hit in the face by a board. She suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.
