Biker dies after crashing head-on with 3-wheeled motorcycle in Hong Kong
Motorcyclist, 21, was heading north on Sha Tin Heights section of Tai Po Road when he lost control of bike
A motorcyclist died after losing control of his vehicle and colliding head‑on with a three-wheeled motorbike in Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened at about 3.21pm on the Sha Tin Heights section of Tai Po Road near the Kowloon Reservoir, when the motorcycle heading north toppled and crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head‑on with the three-wheeler at a bend.
Both riders were injured.
The 21-year-old motorcyclist, an apprentice mechanic, was unconscious and rushed to Caritas Medical Centre in Sham Shui Po, where he was pronounced dead at 3.59pm.
The trike rider, 40, sustained injuries to his head and limbs and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment.
The section of Tai Po Road where the crash occurred has three lanes and a speed limit of 70 km/h (44mph).
