Northern Metropolis will make Hong Kong more liveable, Paul Chan says
Financial Secretary Paul Chan says government will make border town ‘suitable for living, working, studying and leisure’
In his weekly blog post on Sunday, Chan added that the Northern Metropolis was expected to “become a new engine for Hong Kong’s future economic development”.
“We hope to take advantage of the Northern Metropolis development to gradually enhance the living and spatial environment for residents,” he wrote.
“For residential flats built [there], the size configuration of public housing is being optimised, and the minimum size requirements for private housing units are also being raised.”
Flat size configurations refer to the layout and number of rooms in a flat.
For public open spaces, Chan said the standards in the Northern Metropolis would represent an increase of about 30 per cent over the current citywide standard, reaching 3.5 square metres (37.6 sq ft) per capita.
