Three family members have been hurt in a collision on a major Hong Kong road, with the mother suffering serious injuries.

Police received a report at 6.49pm on Sunday that a Kowloon-bound private car had slammed into a parked truck near the entrance of the Tai Wai Tunnel on the Tsing Sha Highway.

The mother was severely injured and rushed unconscious to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin. Her daughter was also taken to the same hospital.

The driver, the father of the family, was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung.

A photo circulating online shows at least two dozen firefighters and paramedics deployed to the scene to pull the trio from the mangled wreckage.
