All crew and passengers have been safely evacuated from a Cathay Pacific Airways flight from India after smoke was reported inside the cabin of the aircraft following its landing in Hong Kong.

Flight CX624 from Bengaluru landed at Hong Kong International Airport at 9.53am on Sunday. Smoke was reported in the cabin of the Airbus A330 as it was leaving the runway.

A preliminary police investigation found the smoke originated from an overheating air-conditioning system, and that it dissipated shortly after landing as the system cooled.

The aircraft taxied to a parking bay, where all passengers and crew were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported, according to the city’s flag carrier. The fire service was on standby at the scene.

“Our engineering team is performing necessary inspections and maintenance checks on the aircraft before returning it to service,” a Cathay spokesman said, without elaborating on the cause of the problem.

“The safety of our customers and crew guides every decision we make.”
