An upper-deck window of a Hong Kong bus was shattered after hitting a tree branch on Monday, leaving one passenger with minor injuries.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said on Monday night that the tree was under its purview and would be removed following the incident.

Police said they received a report at around 8am that a KMB route 277E bus hit an overhanging tree while travelling in the left lane of Ching Hiu Road in Sheung Shui, outside the Glorious Peak residential development.

According to the bus company, one passenger sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

“KMB has already notified the relevant department regarding the situation and will follow up to ensure that roadside trees do not jeopardise road safety,” the company said.

Images circulating online show a large hole where a side window had shattered, with the adjacent pane cracked but still in place. A nearby seat and the floor were covered in pieces of tempered glass.
