Elderly China woman seeks ‘daughter’ to care for her, offers a flat, US$420 monthly salary
Online reactions have varied, with some expressing interest, while others questioning the feasibility and motivations behind Ma’s search

An elderly woman from central China has turned to the internet in search of a new “daughter” to care for her in place of her biological daughters, offering a flat and a monthly salary in return.
The woman, from Henan province and known by her surname Ma, shared the motivations behind her search during a local TV programme on November 19.
Ma explained that she has two biological daughters, one of whom wishes to sever ties with her, while the other suffers from a mental disability and is unable to care for herself.

Struggling with asthma and difficulty walking even 100 metres, Ma hopes to find a woman who can provide care, accompany her to medical appointments, and treat her with the warmth of a daughter.
She is willing to offer the “daughter” one of her two flats, along with her possessions and her monthly pension of 3,000 yuan (US$420) as a monthly salary.
According to the Chinese media outlet Dazhong News, Ma has additional savings of 400,000 yuan (US$56,000).
She mentioned her plan to leave her other flat to her younger daughter.
Reportedly, Ma’s elder daughter has distanced herself due to disagreements over the upbringing of Ma’s granddaughter.
