A seven-year-old girl in northeastern China who single-handedly took care of her sick father in hospital has melted the hearts of millions of internet users.
San Mengru attracted considerable attention online after a man, surnamed Pei, who was caring for his own father in the bed next to the girl’s father, released a video about her on January 18, the local news outlet Kanqi News reported.
The girl’s father, who is in his 40s, was admitted to the Qiqihaer No 1 People’s Hospital in Heilongjiang province with heart disease.
San told Pei that her parents were divorced and her grandmother is over 70 years old and cannot make it to the hospital every day.

The youngster’s other relatives are migrant workers in other cities.
According to Pei, San helped with making appointments, finding doctors or nurses when required, picking up test results and buying meals.
“I have witnessed her do all this. I feel sad for her,” Pei said in the clip.
At one point, Pei’s father needed to be transferred to a bigger hospital in Harbin, also in Heilongjiang, and before leaving, he sent money to San via a social media app and gave her some fruit and boxes of milk.
“I have many problems in my own life, but I cannot bear to see other people suffer,” said Pei, who added that he hoped the video would encourage people to help San’s family.

The footage has been viewed 12 million times on several social media platforms, with many internet users giving donations and sending the youngster daily necessities.
The hospital in Qiqihaer has also reduced San’s father’s medical bills after taking her poor financial situation into consideration.
The little girl’s father has since been discharged.
He said he was able to take care of himself but occasionally needed someone to run errands.

“I let my daughter stay with me at the hospital since she is on winter holiday and there is no one to look after her at home,” he told the media.
Pei’s father’s condition has also improved.
San’s story attracted a huge response online.
“She is wearing such thin clothes. I would like to donate a down jacket for her,” one online observer said.
“Children from poor families understand life early. Other kids her age are spoiled by their parents, but she has to be the pillar of her family. I feel sorry for this sensible girl,” said another person.
