LettersChinese motorcycle brand ZXMOTO’s victory more than a sporting achievement
Readers discuss ZXMOTO’s wins in the WorldSSP class of the Superbike World Championship, and the connection between competition for oil and the space race

ZXMOTO’s triumph is also a powerful testament to China’s evolving technology in high-end manufacturing.
In a competition dominated by brands like Ducati, Yamaha and Kawasaki, the team’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. In the first race, French rider Valentin Debise, riding the ZXMOTO 820RR-RS, claimed a dominant 3.685-second victory. The second race saw a dramatic comeback: after an error dropped Debise to third place, he exploited the bike’s straight-line speed and cornering precision to overtake rivals and claim another win.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the team’s rapid evolution. Just one month prior, at the Australian season opener, ZXMOTO crashed in the first race and struggled with tyre strategy in the second, finishing outside the top 20. Yet in a short time, the engineering team refined the bike’s electronics, engine braking and suspension. In just 30 days, they went from race newcomers to title contenders, showcasing China’s agility in technological innovation.
Beyond the track, the victory challenges the long-held stereotype that Chinese manufacturing is confined to low-end products. The 820RR-RS, powered by a domestically developed three-cylinder engine and featuring lightweight carbon fibre components, shows China’s ability to compete at the cutting edge of motorcycle technology.
