Kasing Lung’s toothy, forest-dwelling creations are having a moment. Celebrating a decade of these “Monsters”, the Hong Kong-born artist returns home for a sprawling exhibition at Asia Society Hong Kong Center. Running until January 4, “Monsters by Monsters” charts the evolution of the mischievous creatures – which inhabit the same story universe as Lung’s signature Labubu – through sketches, paintings and rare collectibles. Covering everything from the artist’s original inspirations in Nordic mythology to the Monsters’ eventual ubiquitousness in pop culture, the exhibition offers a sharp look at how these ugly-cute creatures conquered the world.

China Hong Kong City’s Car Boot Christmas Market has returned, trading traditional tinsel for a grittier street-culture aesthetic. In collaboration with wood artisans Start from Zero, the Tsim Sha Tsui harbourfront space is hosting more than 100 vendors, ranging from Eric Kot Man-fai’s fashion brand Like Black to vintage curios. With classic motors on display, live sets from The Boogie Playboys and charity games in aid of animal rescue groups, it’s a refreshing alternative to the standard festive fare.

This weekend, next weekend and from December 25 to 28. Rooftop near Dolphin Sunset statue, Block 1, China Hong Kong City, Tsim Sha Tsui
